Red Hill Residence
Red Hill, ACT
The brief was a home that felt substantial — not flashy, but the kind of house that turns heads quietly. Classical proportions, cream render, and a symmetrical facade that says "this was designed, not assembled." Triple garage, wrought-iron balustrades, and landscaping that frames the entry like it’s always been there.
What we were working with
Building something grand on a prominent Red Hill street without it feeling imposing. The scale had to impress without overwhelming — and the planning context in Red Hill added another layer of sensitivity.
How we solved it
Classical vocabulary did the heavy lifting — balanced window proportions, strong cornicing, and a roofline that gives the facade weight. The cream render keeps it warm and inviting, while the scale is broken up with careful detailing so it reads as elegant rather than oversized.
