Slavin Place Residence

Gordon, ACT

Most designers looked at this Gordon hillside and saw problems. We saw a home that could cascade down the slope, with every level opening to different views and light. Split levels follow the natural fall of the land — no fighting the site, just working with it.

What we were working with

The block drops steeply from street to rear. Conventional house plans simply don't work here — every metre of fall has to be navigated while keeping the spaces liveable and connected.

How we solved it

A cascading split-level plan that steps down with the site. Each level captures different views and light. Retaining walls become architectural features, and the garage sits at the lowest point for natural street access. Grey block, dark cladding, and Colorbond — materials that sit quietly in the hillside.
